Timothée's misstep, investors suddenly love burgers and soda, and you simply must read this new book

Plus: CBK-inspired neutrals (I have to!!), and the new trend in post-work socialization

The ballet is clapping back, young people aren’t really drinking anymore, and I’m (working on) trading thumb-miles scrolled for pages read.

Let’s get into it.

Willy Wonka hates the opera

Timothée, I love you, but did you have to bash the ballet??? After Chalamet went viral in an interview for saying “no one cares about this anymore” in reference to the ballet and the opera, performers (and their marketing teams) are clapping back with responses. To his credit, he did apologize, but bro! You’re an actor! Respect the art forms!!

Techies are trading alcohol for sweating it out

Young people in tech are rejecting alcohol and turning instead to workout classes and wellness clubs for their post-work plans. A bunch of super-successful tech leaders (Mark Andreessen, Larry Ellison, and others) have publicly given up drinking, so this might be part of the trend; notably, for the first time in history, more than half of people surveyed think drinking (even moderately) is “unhealthy.”

Investors are suddenly moving…AWAY from AI??

This came as a surprise to me (maybe because every single billboard in SF is about whatever new AI product we definitely all need): investors are prioritizing “HALO” companies, which stands for “heavy assets, low obsolescence.” We’re talking soda, deodorant, hamburgers, etc.—basically, stuff that AI can’t really touch. I mean, I love all those things, so…I’m on board, I guess?

My soon-to-be husband and I are taking dance lessons to practice for our big moment, and I’ve learned that he is way more coordinated than I am, which is deeply humbling! Taking guesses for our first dance song (and don’t worry, I will ensure he is not wearing his Garmin on the big day).

Shoes are actually surprisingly comfy to dance in… big win

And look. I can’t not pretend I’m CBK for a day. I know we all watched Love Story in approximately 2 days and I know we’re all wearing tailored blacks and whites and weirdly dreaming of blowout fights in Central Park?? These white jeans from Still Here are some of my most-worn! I admit the buckle would be a little edgy for CBK, but I still think she’d appreciate!

Right before heading to first-ever dance class!

One of my lazy girl BAD habits is scrolling endlessly because when I’m bored, sometimes I’m not really sure what else to do. I know this is bad! I’m embarrassed about it! And I’m not trying to say that I invented the concept of reading, but I am trying to queue up books I’m excited about so that I can reach for my Kindle instead of my phone when I’m feeling bored and/or lazy.

So here’s today’s book rec! I got to read an advance copy of Girls Our Age, which is about 3 best friends: former college roommates; now in their late-twenties, who are navigating growing up, work/mental health/relationship stress, the first wedding in their friend group…basically exactly what every single person in my life is going through. And one of the characters lives in SF! I flew through it and can’t wait for it to come out in May so I can talk about it with more people. I promise I’ll also recommend books you can get your hands on now, but highly recommend preordering or saving for later so you can read it when it’s out!

Also a moment for the cover??!

Thanks for reading!
