TV execs are baffled by Heated Rivalry's success and I'm baffled that they're baffled

Also: a big win for Amy Poehler and I'm sooo team Mary Beth Barone

Poehler’s podcast won against her ex-husband, I spent the weekend working on becoming an actress (let’s not jinx it!), and if you already failed your New Year’s resolutions, I have thoughts. Let’s get into it.

Netflix is launching podcasts

As if you needed another reason to be distracted at work, Netflix is now launching video podcasts, with content incoming from Chelsea Handler, Barstool, Bill Simmons, and more. They’re hoping this increases daytime viewership (tbh good for us for not watching Netflix all day!). Pricing for the platform won’t change, and if you’re a subscriber, you’ll get access to all 34 new pods.

Speaking of podcasts, yay Amy Poehler!

This was the first year that podcasts were eligible for awards at the Golden Globes (shout out to Mary Beth Barone for crushing her role as host). The category was won by the legendary Amy Poehler, whose podcast Good Hang has included interviews with A-listers including Aubrey Plaza, Ariana Grande, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more. And girlie beat out her ex-husband Will Arnett for the award! I am personally a huge fan of Poehler’s show, and especially recommend the Ariana Grande episode (no surprise).

Heated Rivalry’s success is baffling TV execs (I am not baffled)

Heated Rivalry fans made up a Harry Styles-sized crowd when Hudson Williams (Shane Hollander) appeared on The Tonight Show a few weeks ago. TV execs are (for some reason) baffled by the show’s “highly unusual” growth. The series, which first came out on a small Cadanian network called Crave, has been licensed by HBO and subsequently taken off. Which I feel like was obvious to all of us? Next time the TV Execs have questions about which extremely attractive men will skyrocket to fame, I beg of them to just ask us.

I spent the weekend working on an audition tape for a show. My fiancé absolutely LOVED helping me prep by reading lines with me for two hours, and in fact asked if we could practice lines together every day (tbh he asked if he could have some alone time afterwards). Actress era…loading??

I’m sooo camera shy

It took me almost three decades but I’ve finally mastered the art of complementary neutrals. Shoutout to my color analysis a few months back! Camel coat + barrel jeans + my signature sunglasses is serving “I know what I’m doing” and also “I’m fun, approachable, and prepared for any of San Francisco’s microclimates and/or any of my boss’s potential microaggressions today!” Perfect!

Shoes that feel like slippers

If your New Year’s resolutions fell apart by day six, congrats. That was the beta version. Mid-January is when routines actually stick because real work, real schedules, and real energy levels are SO BACK!

So if you’re already feeling like you’re failing your January plans, time for a reset. Pick one resolution and restart it badly. Two short workouts instead of five. One home-cooked meal. One focused hour on the thing you said you cared about. Momentum counts even if it’s late! January is long! You still have plenty of time to become slightly more put-together than last year.
