Working Girl's Guide #12: Sticky phones, bathroom etiquette

And Prime Day sales!

Everyone’s sticking their stupid sticky phone to everything, I found the best hack in the world for that 11am checkout to 8pm flight lull (and it does not include lugging your bags around town with you!), and Ross and I have thoughts on workplace bathroom etiquette.

Let’s get into it.

Hack Alert

No I love when my own advice comes back to bite me in the a$%!! Last week, I sung the praises of flying on weekdays and working from the air. But then a dude got in huge trouble for mimicking legit in-air WiFi connections and stealing people’s data…so if you’re getting productive at 30,000 feet, make sure the WiFi provider is legit! And to be safe, maybe try a VPN.

A.I. Drive Thru = Epic Fail

Robot drive-thru attendants powered by IBM’s A.I. technology are getting laid off from McDonald’s after messing up (again and again). They rung one buyer up for 260 nuggets, and another for 9 sweet teas. Wendy’s had had better luck with Google Cloud’s A.I., and Carl’s Jr uses an A.I. for restaurants called Presto.

Hi Prime Day!

Today’s the second (and last) day of Amazon Prime Day. I’ve read a lot of articles about the best deals, and they seem mostly to be around vacuums, oral hygiene, and coffee makers, which… I guess I feel seen? Here’s a good roundup of deals, another super detailed (not very aesthetic) extremely comprehensive list, and my picks for my WFH office, daily makeup / skincare routine, and room essentials.

I spent this past weekend in Hawaii with my besties, which was an absolutely blast and included hours of giggling at the stupidest jokes, many sunburns, and 3 days of dressing for the female gaze. I’ve been looking forward to this trip for months, so getting home was major Sunday scaries, but I’m also feeling appreciative of my home and routine.

We wore bikinis and messy hair all weekend, but here’s a rare pic of us looking presentable

Did I wear this outfit 3 times last week? I absolutely did, why do you ask? The short sleeve sweater is the perfect fall transition piece (I realize if you’re not in SF, the thought of a sweater probably makes you start sweating, but it’s winter out here in the Bay, I swear!). The shoes are easy to walk in (you know I can’t walk in high heels), and I’ve linked a few similar, less pricey options too, if you’re looking for that metallic pop but don’t want to splurge on Ref.

Trying out a new pillow arrangement on my bed! What do you think?

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m traveling A LOT this summer, and I am not one to pay for an extra day at the hotel/Airbnb if I have a late flight. If you’re checking out at 11, have some time to kill, and not about to traipse around town with your suitcase in tow, I have just the plan for you! Use ClassPass to filter for workout studios with showers (FYI, you can search on ClassPass even if you don’t have a membership), then spend the afternoon getting in a pre-flight sweat while storing your luggage behind the front desk or in the locker room. Bonus: most studios have a discounted (or even free) offer for new students if you book directly.

Didn’t realize until I posted this micromanager reel how REAL this is for so many of you! Someone in the comments summed it up well: “Micromanagers make you feel like a failure while they are the problem here.” TRULY!

Ross and I discussed asserting dominance in the workplace (de-magnetizing key fobs is something one of us has done), our thoughts on playing TikToks on full volume while in the workplace bathroom, and non-verbal cues on Zoom. Listen here!

Thanks for reading!
